Ranchi, Sept 20: Jharkhand stands on 8th rank in murder cases among the 28 states of the country. According to the NCRB report, the state witnessed 1592 murder cases in the year 2020. In comparison to the previous two years, the state witnessed fewer murder cases in 2020. A total of 1712, 1626, and 1592 murder cases were reported in the year 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Among all the states of the country, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with a total of 3779 cases in 2020. On the other hand 3150 cases in Bihar, 2163 in Maharashtra, 2101 in Madhya Pradesh, 1719 in Rajasthan, and 1661 in Tamil Nadu were reported in 2020.
The majority of the murder cases happened either due to land cases or mutual disputes among the family members. After the separation of Jharkhand from Bihar, there was a sudden increase in the prices of land in different cities including the capital. With the rise in the land prices, several gangsters indulged in the case, after which the instances of murder cases took a peak. However, police said that maximum cases of murder reported were due to mutual dispute.
