VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR
Hazaribag, Jan 11: The women of Choncha village in Bedam panchayat of Tatijharia block decided to make a proper mud road. For the last one week, dozen women have taken up spades, shovels and other types of equipment to make a motorable road to their village.
The village lacks a road making it tough for villagers to go to other places. It even becomes tough for them to carry patients to the hospital in times of emergency. The demand for roads is several decades old with villagers now knowing well that promises are made to hoodwink them. The village is situated 20 km away from the village.
“We face trouble when pregnant women need medical emergency. We carry her on cots shouldered by village men,” added Manjhli Tirkey who is leading the work.
“We ran from one office to another for a road. Even requested representatives to make a road but all fell on deaf ears. Now decided not to run behind them, we women are cleaning land converting it into a motorable kutchcha road,” she added.
They are also levelling the road as well. Tirkey said it will take a few days to make a two-kilometre road. Fulo Marandi and Parwati Tuddu said they also want to give a message to society that nothing is impossible if you decided to move ahead in this regard.
