Jharkhand: State rapid and blitz chess championship to begin from March 26

Dhanbad, March 24: Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Prize Memorial State Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship will be held from March 26 to 28 at  Birsa Munda Indoor Stadium Chaibasa.

Former International Master (IM) All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA) General Secretary Neeraj Mishra said that based on performance in the championship, the top two men and two women players would be selected to represent Jharkhand in the national rapid and blitz championship.

The state championship is being hosted by the West Singhbhum District Chess Association in which over 100 senior and junior players of different age groups have confirmed their participation.

BJP MP (Rajya Sabha) Deepak Prakash will inaugurate this three-day state championship that has become the centre of attraction for the players as it is being organized on a large scale post-Covid.

“Cash of Rs 58,000 is for the prize and besides winners and runners of senior, top 10 players of under 7 years, 9 years, 11 years, 13 years and 15 years would be given the prize money also. Veteran men and women players would also be felicitated with a cash prize,” said Neeraj Singh.

Secretary of host West Singhbum District Chess Association Basant Khandelwal, vice-president Narendra Nath Pandey and organizing committee member Arpit Khandelwal said that since players across the state are coming to participate, the committee has made proper arrangements for their boarding.
