Ranchi, June 20: The State Yoga Centre organised a week-long celebration to commemorate World Yoga Day on its premises which started on June 15 and will end on June 21. The event saw the participation of several hundred yoga lovers in age groups from two to 45 years of age.
Talking in this regard, trainer and member of the management committee Archana Kumari said, “We had organised a week-long event namely World Yoga Week that began on June 15. Programmes were organised every day under this.”
She further added, “We had plans to organise a Yoga rally, however, noting the then conditions in the city, we dropped the idea. However, we began yoga practices on the day. On the second day, we organised a graduation ceremony for students of the centre along with a cleanliness campaign with the yoga practice for people present.”
“On the third day, we organised a yoga asana competition along with the regular yoga class. The fourth day saw a painting competition commemorating yoga. The fifth day saw musical yoga dance performances,” Kumari continued.
On Monday, the centre plans to organise a speech competition on yoga, while on Yoga Day, we will be organising a yoga class along with a closing ceremony for the week-long event.
When asked about the other programmes to be organised at the state level, she said, “A programme is to be organised at the Aayush Nideshalay NRHM campus, which was earlier organised at Prabhat Tara Ground. Health minister Banna Gupta, health secretary will be present on the occasion along with several officials of the state government.”
Established in 2015 under the Raghubar Das government, the State Yoga Centre in the city is still functional with more than 1500 students of all age groups and walks of life that visit the centre for yoga practice and further one-to-one counselling seven days a week. The centre has several classes namely fitness-based, and advanced classes (children that participate in competitions).
When asked about the students of the centre she said, “We have students from all walks of life. There are children that visit us, we also have women and men groups. College students and young officials are also regular visitors here.”
Kumari added, “The State Yoga Center was set up with the aim to provide specialized training at a facility for the personality development and healthy physique of the residents and I can proudly say that we have been working continuously to fulfil the goal.”
