Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Police on Monday issued a public alert regarding the circulation of a video by the terrorist group Jaish-e-Muhammad, which features a poster of the Bollywood movie “Phantom.” The police have warned that forwarding the video could constitute an offense under sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), the J&K Police provided specific instructions to the public and police officers concerning the 5-minute, 55-second video released by Jaish around 2 pm. The directives include:
- Do not forward the video in any manner.
- Report the source of the video: Inform the authorities who sent the video, including the telephone number, date, and time of receipt.
- Police and civil officers: Report the matter to their supervisory officers via text message.
The alert comes amid a spike in terror attacks in the Jammu region, where both civilians and Indian armed forces personnel have been targeted. Recently, nine army personnel, including a captain, were killed in separate terror attacks in the remote forest areas of Machedi in Kathua and Desa forest in Doda on July 8 and July 15. In response, security forces have neutralized several terrorists in encounters.
Intelligence reports suggest that 40-50 terrorists have infiltrated via the international border in Jammu over the past two to three months. These terrorists have split into smaller groups, and security forces are working to neutralize them before upcoming elections, according to former DGP Dr. SP Vaid.
On Saturday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi met with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies at the police headquarters in Jammu to discuss ongoing anti-terror operations and strategies for eliminating terrorists in the region.
