Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has decided to defer the decision on granting age relaxation for JPSC aspirantsuntil the conclusion of the ongoing election model code of conduct. A proposal to offer a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit was submitted by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, but it could not be approved due to the enforcement of the municipal election code of conduct.

Why Age Relaxation Is Being Considered

The 14th Combined Civil Services Examination conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC)uses August 1, 2026 as the cut-off date for calculating minimum and maximum age. However, due to irregular scheduling of civil service exams in the state, many aspirants have now exceeded the eligible age limit.

What Students Are Demanding

Student groups have demanded up to 8 years of age relaxation, citing long gaps in exam notifications. If accepted, this would allow general category candidates up to 38 years old, and disabled candidates up to 48 years old, to appear in the exam. Similar relaxations are being demanded across other reservation categories.

What the Government Proposes

The state government has not shown willingness to approve an 8-year extension. Instead, it proposed a maximum 3-year relaxation to be applicable only for the 14th JPSC exam, which was sent for cabinet approval. However, due to the model code of conduct currently in force for the municipal elections, no official decision could be taken. The matter will be revisited once the code is lifted.
