Karnataka Assembly election: BJP to release first list of candidates today

Bengaluru, April 10: BS Yediyurappa, a former chief minister of Karnataka and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced on Monday that the party will announce the initial list of candidates for about 170-180 seats on Tuesday.

At the CEC meeting for the Karnataka Assembly elections held on Sunday at the party’s headquarters in the city, senior BJP figures were present.

In the national capital earlier on Saturday, Amit Shah hosted a meeting to discuss and complete the list of candidates for the May 10 elections.

Yediyurappa who participated in Saturday’s meeting said, “The first list of candidates for around 170-180 seats will be released by today evening”.

At the party’s headquarters in the nation’s capital, senior BJP officials were present for the Chief Election Committee meeting for the Karnataka Assembly elections slated for next month.

BJP Chief JP Nadda, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi were present at the meeting.

On Sunday, CM Bommai said that he will run for office from the Shiggaon seat.

The BJP won 104 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections, making it the largest single party elected, followed by the Congress with 80 seats and the JD(S) with 37.
