New Delhi, Oct 7: The police cracked down and filed proceedings against nine persons after a mob broke down the locked gate of the Mohammed Gawan Madrasa mosque inside the Bidar historic site in Karnataka.
The incident happened early on Thursday morning, according to the complainant Mohammed Shafiuddin, a member of the mosque committee, when a procession was passing close by.
A crowd of about 60 people broke the gate’s lock to force entry to the historically significant structure while yelling protests. It was said that “Gulal” was also thrown inside the building.
When the security personnel there raised an alarm, the mob also threatened them.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, tweeted in response to the event that “extremists” had attempted to defile the historical site.
“Visuals from historic Mahmud Gawan masjid & madrasa, Bidar, #Karnataka (5th October). Extremists broke the gate lock & attempted to desecrate. @bidar_police @BSBommai how can you allow this to happen? BJP is promoting such activity only to demean Muslims,” Owaisi alleged on his Twitter handle.
