Jamshedpur, Aug 18: An exhibition-cum-sale of handloom and Khadi products began at the Tatanagar railway station from today.
Such an initiative was taken for the first time to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.
It is an attempt to showcase the indigenous- handloom and Khadi products- a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The outlet was opened as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
In the South Eastern Railway jurisdiction, stalls have been opened at Tatanagar and Kharagpur stations to showcase handloom and Khadi products as symbols of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Tatanagar is the only railway station under Chakradharpur division where the outlet was opened.
Railway sources said such stalls have been opened at 75 other railway stations across the country.
Tatanagar was selected as it falls on the Howrah-Mumbai mainline and that footfall of passengers is more at Tatanagar compared to other railway stations in the entire Chakradharpur division.
” South Eastern Railway provided all necessary assistance for the erection. It will also look after maintenance and operation of the stalls, ” said HK Balmuchu, director of Tatanagar railway station.
