New Delhi, Nov 14: Indian bowler Shardul Thakur has been hired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from Delhi Capitals (DC) for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This trade was completed on Monday.
Shardul is currently a member of the Indian team travelling to New Zealand for an ODI series beginning on November 18. He was purchased by Delhi Capitals at the IPL Mega Auction earlier this year for around $1.43 million (INR 10.75 crore). At the time, Delhi had won a four-way bidding war over his old team Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans to get him.
The pacer finished with 15 wickets in 14 matches and a 9.79 economy rate during the league’s 2022 season. These are some of his lowest bowling marks since he started playing regularly in the league in 2017. He batted with a strike rate of about 138 and scored 120 runs.
The IPL teams are expected to finalise their list of retained/released players on Tuesday, which is the last day of this trading window, which has seen the most activity from KKR. Tuesday at 5 PM IST is the deadline for the retention window to close.
Earlier, the Indian Premier League announced that Gujarat Titans fast bowler Lockie Ferguson had been transferred to Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL 2023.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, an Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman, was also transferred from Gujarat Titans to Kolkata Knight Riders. He replaced England batter Jason Roy in the Gujarat Titans lineup for the 2022 IPL, but he didn’t play in any of the previous season’s matches.
With 14 points and seven victories in 14 games, DC placed sixth in the IPL 2022 season. With 12 points and six victories in 14 games, KKR, on the other hand, had placed seventh overall.
