Cape town, Jan 14: After opponent skipper Dean Elgar had a major reprieve owing to a contentious DRS ruling, India captain Virat Kohli and his colleagues lost their cool during the final 45 minutes of the third day. Some of the snide remarks made against umpiring, technology, and broadcasters may not sit well with the match referee, and the Indian captain may be forced to pay a fine.
Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a flighted one that dipped and then straightened to beat a lunging Elgar’s bat in the 21st over. Marais Erasmus, the umpire, immediately lifted his finger, but Elgar requested DRS.
“Kohli is very immature. It’s worst for an Indian captain to say like this in stumps. By doing this you will never be an idol to youngsters,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
“In the first innings, you got a 50-50 call on caught behind then you were silent and in Mayank appeal too. I think Dravid will talk to him on this topic,” he added.
While it appeared to be dead plumb, Kohli kicked the ground in fury as the reversal of decision sparked a flurry of speculation. Knowing that the stump microphone records every word spoken, the players made it a point to express their thoughts to everyone in South Africa.
“Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time,” Kohli was overheard on the stump mic saying, while the likes of Ashwin and Rahul also seemed to have alleged that the images shown on the screen by the ball-tracking system were flawed.
