Kolkata: As the investigation into the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata intensifies, Durga Devi, the mother-in-law of the accused Sanjay Roy, has hinted at the possibility of more individuals being involved in the crime. Speaking to ANI on Monday, Durga Devi shared that Roy “could not have done it alone,” raising questions about the full extent of the crime.
Durga Devi also revealed details of her daughter’s troubled relationship with Sanjay Roy, describing it as “tense” and marred by violence. She recounted that Roy had caused her daughter to suffer a miscarriage and had physically assaulted her, leading to a police complaint.
Reflecting on the severity of the situation, Durga Devi expressed her discontent with Roy, stating, “Hang him or do whatever you want with him. I won’t speak about the crime. He can’t do it alone.”
The brutal rape and murder of the young doctor have sparked widespread outrage across India, leading to protests and demands for swift justice. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case, with Chief Justice DY Chandrachud set to hear it.
In the midst of the ongoing investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been granted permission to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy. On August 18, the CBI also conducted a 3D laser mapping of the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the incident occurred.
The West Bengal government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe potential financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from January 2021 to date. The SIT, led by IG Pranav Kumar, will have access to relevant documents and is expected to submit its first report within a month.
As the investigation continues, the call for justice grows louder, with many hoping for a thorough inquiry that will bring all those involved to account.
