New Delhi, Nov 6: As winter draws nearer, the mayor of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has urged residents to be ready for severe weather if Russia keeps attacking the energy infrastructure of the nation, disrupting the provision of electricity, water, and heat.
“We are doing everything to avoid this. But let’s be frank, our enemies are doing everything for the city to be without heat, without electricity, without water supply, in general, so we all die,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko was quoted as saying by AP.
“And the future of the country and the future of each of us depends on how prepared we are for different situations,” the mayor added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that Russia had continued a campaign of precision strikes against Ukraine’s infrastructure as revenge for the Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow’s fleet in Crimea.
An earlier hint of a probable pullback from Kherson’s west bank of the Dnipro River by a Russian official in southern Ukraine raised suspicions in Kyiv.
Additionally, Russia made a plea for the locals of Kherson to evacuate the area, making Ukraine and western military analysts wary of its intentions. It will be a long winter for the citizens of the war-torn country as military attacks in Ukraine escalate and the threat of nuclear war remains ever-present.
