New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a key operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba, near the Bangladesh border after a prolonged surveillance operation. Officials said Lone had been operating a terror module from a hideout near Dhaka and was actively involved in recruiting youths for extremist activities across multiple Indian cities.
Two-Month Surveillance Led To Arrest
The operation, closely monitored by Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, followed a two-month intelligence-driven chase. A special team led by senior officers tracked Lone’s movements after his involvement surfaced in recruitment networks spanning Delhi, Kolkata, and Tamil Nadu. Authorities described the arrest as a major breakthrough in dismantling cross-border terror operations.
Past Links And Escape To Bangladesh
Lone had previously been arrested in 2007 on terror charges but fled to Bangladesh in 2019 after securing bail. Since then, he had remained a significant concern for Indian security agencies, particularly after establishing a Lashkar-linked cell operating from foreign soil.
Agencies Hunt Other Key Operatives
Investigators are also pursuing Sheikh Sajjad Gul, another high-profile operative linked to Delhi. Gul, previously convicted in a terror case and later released, is believed to have escaped to Pakistan and is now associated with The Resistance Front, which has been linked to multiple attacks, including the Pahalgam incident.
