Ranchi/New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and BJP leader Madhu Koda has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision that denied him permission to contest in elections. After his petition was rejected by the High Court, Koda’s hopes of contesting in the upcoming elections were dashed. Consequently, he has now sought relief from the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R Mahadevan, will hear his petition.
Delhi High Court Rejected Madhu Koda’s Petition
The Delhi High Court had dismissed Madhu Koda’s petition, stating that the petitioner sought a stay on the verdict solely to enable him to contest the elections, which was deemed inappropriate. The High Court observed that there appeared to be a prima facie case of guilt against Koda, and therefore, there was no valid reason to stay the lower court’s decision.
The lower court had convicted former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, along with former Coal Secretary, former Chief Secretary A.K. Basu, and Koda’s associates in the coal scam. All were sentenced to three years in prison, with an additional fine imposed on the accused.
