Jabalpur, August 19: The statue of the late Subhash Chandra Banerjee, the father-in-law of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national President JP Nadda, was unveiled in Jabalpur on Saturday by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
BJP state president V D Sharma, Jabalpur Member of Parliament (MP) Rakesh Singh and other politicians attended the event along with Union Minister Prahlad Patel. CM Chouhan engaged with the media in the area after unveiling the statue and planted a few saplings.
He said, “Banerjee was a dedicated worker of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since Childhood. He was full of the feeling of patriotism. Imbued with Sangh’s tradition, he worked as a preacher for ten years and later he established Bharatiya Jana Sangh under the guidance of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in Mahakoshal, a region of central India. (Mahakoshal lies in the upper or eastern reaches of the Narmada River valley in Madhya Pradesh. Jabalpur is the largest city in the region).”
Banerjee made an immeasurable contribution to the growth of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Mahakaushal. He ran in the Lok Sabha elections before in 1967 and fought the Congress hard at the time. The CM claimed that as a result of his motivation, his wife, former Jabalpur MP Jayshree Banerjee, and the entire family had been actively serving the nation and the public in an act of patriotism.
The Chief Minister further said, “Probably the family of Subhas ji would be the only family whose all six members were in jail simultaneously during the Emergency period. Due to his austerity, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and then the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were established here. After that, his wife Jayshree Banerjee also represented in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. She has also been the minister.”
It was a blessing for him to unveil Banarjee’s statue, he continued.
