Bengaluru: The shocking discovery of a woman’s chopped body stored in a refrigerator at a Bengaluru flat has come to light after the victim’s mother, Meena Rana, filed a complaint revealing chilling details. In her FIR, Meena described how a foul smell coming from her daughter’s house led to the revelation of the gruesome crime.
The victim, identified as Mahalakshmi Das, had last communicated with her mother on September 2. Concern grew when her brother, Ukkum Singh, received a call from Mahalakshmi’s neighbor about the stench coming from the flat. On Saturday, the family went to Mahalakshmi’s flat and found the door locked from the outside.
Maggots and Blood Stains Near the Fridge
Using a spare key from the landlord, the family entered the flat. According to the FIR, Meena described the horrifying scene inside. “The apartment was completely ransacked, with clothes, slippers, bags, and a suitcase dumped in the living room,” she stated. She noticed maggots near the refrigerator and suspected blood stains. When she opened the fridge, she found her daughter’s body cut into 30 pieces.
“I ran outside in shock to inform my son-in-law, Imran. He immediately called the police,” Meena said in her statement, according to The Indian Express.
Crime Investigation Begins
The victim, Mahalakshmi Das, was employed as a team leader at Fashion Factor, a clothing shop in Malleshwaram. Police and forensic experts arrived at the scene shortly after the call was made. N Satheesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (West Zone), confirmed that the body had been chopped into pieces about 4-5 days ago and stored in the refrigerator.
The investigation is ongoing, with the police questioning several suspects, including Mahalakshmi’s husband, as the couple had not been living together at the time of her death.
Authorities are working to piece together the details of this gruesome case, and a dog squad and forensic experts have been deployed to aid in the investigation.
