New Delhi: The Congress party has released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, slated for November 20. The announcement followed a Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held on Saturday.
Nagpur South Goes to Congress, Girish Pandav to Contest
Nagpur South, a constituency previously debated between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), has now been allocated to Congress. Girish Krushnarao Pandav will represent the party from this seat. With this new list, Congress has announced 71 candidates, having previously declared 48 in the initial list.
Congress Confirms No Rift Within MVA
The Congress reaffirmed that there were no internal disputes within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, emphasizing that the final seat-sharing arrangement between its constituents would be officially announced by Saturday evening.
After the CEC meeting, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who oversees Maharashtra for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), said, “The MVA is contesting as a united front, and there are no differences among us.”
Unified Approach for Assembly Elections
Chennithala further added, “We are working together to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Maharashtra. We are confident that the MVA will form the government. People are ready to oust this corrupt administration.”
Nana Patole, President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the MVA would perform better in the upcoming Assembly elections compared to the Lok Sabha polls, forming a full majority government.
Congress leader Venugopal also commented after the deliberations, stating, “We are poised to dominate the upcoming assembly elections as the MVA coalition,” via a post on X (formerly Twitter), while sharing images from the CEC meeting.
