New Delhi, June 27: The Supreme Court on Monday extended Eknath Shinde and 15 other dissident MLAs in the Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly to submit a written response to the Deputy Speaker’s disqualification notice till July 12.
Eknath Shinde, the leader of the Shiv Sena rebels, filed a plea with the court objecting to the disqualification notifications that the Deputy Speaker had sent to rebel MLAs for proceedings under the Constitution’s tenth schedule over alleged defection.
Another writ suit filed by Bharat Gogawale and 14 other Shiv Sena MLAs seeking to prevent the Deputy Speaker from acting in the disqualification petition until the decision for the Deputy Speaker’s removal is decided was also being considered. It has given notice to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Secretary and given the Respondents five days to file any necessary counter affidavits.
The supreme Court also issues notice to Shiv Sena leaders Ajay Chaudhary, Sunil Prabhu and asks them to file a reply within five days. Supreme Court lists the plea for hearing on July 11th.
