Mumbai, July 3: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday fired three party leaders for attending the oath-taking ceremony on Sunday, disqualified nine MLAs and sought the expulsion of two members of the Lok Sabha. This came a day after Ajit Pawar took the oath to serve as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

The three expelled leaders are Narendra Rane, the working president of the party’s Mumbai division, Vijay Deshmukh, the Akola City District President and regional General Secretary Shivaji Rao Garje.

Stating the name and position of each of these three party leaders in its statement, the party said that “the act of these leaders is against party discipline as well as party policy. Therefore, they are immediately dismissed from the membership of the party and from their respective posts”.

The State Disciple Committee of the party also passed a resolution that would disqualify nine NCP MLAs for “engaging in anti-party activities.”

“It is recorded that the fact these defections were done in such a secretive manner, without the knowledge or consent of the party president, amounts to desertion of the party, which in turn invites disqualification,” the letter issued by the State Disciple Committee of the NCP read.

In a formal letter to NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, NCP working president Supriya Sule asked for the disqualification of Lok Sabha members Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel.

“Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel on 2nd July 2023 acted in direct contravention of the Party Constitution and Rules, amounting to desertion and disqualification from the party membership. I request honorable Pawar Saheb to take immediate action and file disqualification petitions under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India before the Competent Authority against them for engaging in anti-party activities,” Sule wrote in the letter addressed to Sharad Pawar.
