AGRA: Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, who is currently in India on a four-day bilateral visit, visited the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra on Tuesday, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

Expressing his admiration for the world-renowned monument, Muizzu penned down his thoughts in the visitors’ book, stating, “It is tough to describe this mausoleum’s beauty as words simply cannot do it justice. This mesmerising intricacy and attention to detail is a testament to love and architectural excellence.”

The first couple from the Maldives were warmly welcomed to Uttar Pradesh by Cabinet Minister Yogendra Upadhyayat the Agra airport, representing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. To commemorate their visit, the minister presented Muizzu and his wife with a replica of the Taj Mahal. The couple also posed for photographs with the 17th-century monument in the background, marking the highlight of their visit.

Due to security arrangements for the President’s visit, the Taj Mahal remained closed to the public from 8 am to 10 am.

After visiting the Taj Mahal, President Muizzu and the First Lady made a stop at Shilpgram, an open-air crafts village showcasing the local arts and culture. They were treated to a cultural performance by artistes from the Braj region, adding a touch of traditional flair to their itinerary.

Bilateral Agreements and Talks with PM Modi

President Muizzu’s India visit has been marked by important bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two nations signed several agreements, including a currency swap agreement, the launch of the Rupay card in the Maldives, and the inauguration of a new runway at Hanimadhoo International Airport.

These agreements further solidify the strengthening relationship between India and the Maldives, with both nations focusing on enhancing economic cooperation and infrastructure development.
