Kolkata, April 24: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, stated that there is “no ego clash” regarding a grand alliance of anti-BJP parties and that it will be the people vs. BJP in the general elections of next year following a brief meeting with her counterpart Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav today. She asserted that she had previously stated that she had no problem with the like-minded Opposition parties coming together for the crucial election contest.

The two prominent Bihar leaders were by her side as she spoke to the media and stated, “I have made just one request to Nitish Kumar. Jayaprakash (Narayan) ji’s movement started from Bihar. If we have an all-party meeting in Bihar, we can then decide where we have to go next. But first, we have to give a message that we are united. I have said earlier, too, that I have no objections. I have always reiterated that BJP should be brought to zero. They have become huge heroes with the help of media, and the fake narratives that they push day-in, day out. All they indulge is in jumlas and goondaism.”

She stated regarding the one-seat, one-candidate electoral system put forth by Nitish Kumar’s party that “if thought, vision, and mission are clear, there will be no issues.”

Nitish Kumar described it as a “very positive discussion” in which they talked about getting ready for the next elections in every way possible.

“Those who are ruling now, have nothing to do. They are just doing their own publicity. Nothing is being done for the nation’s development,” he said.

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, had earlier today travelled to Kolkata’s West Bengal state secretariat to see Ms. Banerjee in an effort to create a broad coalition against the BJP. He was on a mission to gather together opposition parties that had no love lost for the Congress. Later, Tejashwi Yadav and Nitish Kumar are expected to travel to Lucknow to meet with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

“The only way to win against Narendra Modi is to follow a one-against-one policy in 2024, which means one seat, one candidate from the opposition against the BJP candidate,” said senior Janata Dal-United leader KC Tyagi.

Though some claim there is little optimism that the rival opposition groups can agree on a truce, the one-against-one strategy, which prevented a split in the opposition vote in 1977 and 1989, is considered as a powerful weapon against the BJP and PM Modi’s election juggernaut.
