Kalaburagi, Karnataka: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly setting fire to an electric bike showroom in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, after repeated issues with his electric scooter remained unresolved. The accused, identified as Mohammad Nadeem, was frustrated after multiple attempts to repair his scooter failed.
According to police, Nadeem purchased the scooter from an Ola Electric showroom just last month. He soon encountered a problem with a strange noise coming from the rear wheel belt. Despite returning the scooter twice for repairs, the issue persisted.
On Tuesday, Nadeem visited the showroom demanding either a replacement scooter or a refund of ₹1.4 lakh, which he had spent on the vehicle. When the showroom manager refused his request, Nadeem reportedly took out a bottle of petrol, poured it around the showroom, and set it ablaze.
Chowk police inspector Raghavendra Bhajantri confirmed the incident. “The fire destroyed six scooters, along with furniture and electronic equipment. The total damage is estimated to be over ₹10 lakh,” said showroom manager M Pavan.
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze, preventing further damage to neighboring buildings. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Nadeem has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to mischief by fire and intent to cause damage. He was produced before a local court in Kalaburagi and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
