New Delhi, Jan 15: An IndiGo flight from Madurai to Delhi was diverted to the Indore airport after a 60-year-old passenger began bleeding in flight, but medical staff at the nearby hospital pronounced him dead.
The passenger was transported to a hospital close to the airport after the plane arrived at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International airport, where medics declared him brought dead, a senior official said.
Although the airport set up an ambulance with a doctor inside and adhered to all pertinent SOPs, the passenger was later pronounced deceased by a doctor at the nearby hospital.
“As per the initial information, Atul Gupta (60), who was on board IndiGo Airlines flight 6E-2088, was bleeding from the mouth and his condition deteriorated midway through the journey,” Prabodh Chandra Sharma, director in-charge of the airport was quoted by PTI as saying.
The airport arranged an ambulance with a doctor and followed all relevant SOPs but later the passenger was declared dead by the doctor at the local hospital. (2/2)

The Madurai-Delhi fligawas redirected to Indore due to the medical issue, and it arrived at the local airport at 5:30 pm. At 6:40 p.m., he claimed, the flight departed for its destination (New Delhi).

The dead Gupta, according to a sub-inspector at the Aerodrome police station, resided in Noida. After a postmortem, his body would be given to his family, he added.
