New Delhi, Jan 7: The man from Mumbai accused of peeing on a female co-passenger on an Air India aircraft was apprehended in Bengaluru.
According to sources, Shankar Mishra, the suspect, was being housed at a homestay in Bengaluru when he was apprehended. Through Friday night, a Delhi Police squad was attempting to pinpoint his location.
To avoid capture, the accused had been moving around. As Mishra has offices in both Mumbai and Bengaluru and routinely travels between the two cities, Delhi Police conducted raids in both cities.
Shankar Mishra was the subject of a Look Out Circular (LOC) from Delhi Police after he withdrew from communication and declined to cooperate with the inquiry. Mishra is accused of peeing on his business class seatmate, a senior in her seventies, while intoxicated on an Air India journey from New York to New Delhi in November of last year.
The Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscene act in public place), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunk person) as well as the Aircraft Rules were used to file a case against Shankar Mishra.
Mishra was fired by Wells Fargo, a prominent provider of financial services in the US, when the incident came to light and made headlines this week. He held the position of vice president for the Wells Fargo branch in India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in the meantime, has demanded an explanation from Tata Group-owned Air India and criticised their “unprofessional” handling of the situation. The air carrier handled the urinating incident on November 26 in a “dereliction of duty,” according to the DGCA.
