New Delhi, July 6: A woman was allegedly shot and killed by unidentified criminals outside a school in Imphal West on Thursday, according to sources, only a day after classes resumed across Manipur. Police sources stated that the victim’s identity and community have not yet been determined.
Sources claim that the incident happened in front of Shishu Nishtha Niketan School. The event has created fear in the neighbourhood where schools just reopened yesterday.
The incident occurs in the midst of ongoing, continuing ethnic conflicts in the state that have been waging for more than two months. Security forces disrupted an altercation between two armed groups from the Mapao and Awang Sekmai regions earlier in the day in the Kangpokpi district.
A crowd in the Thoubal district set fire to an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) member’s home in another violent incident after the IRB member thwarted rioters’ attempts to steal weapons from the police armoury, according to officials on Wednesday.
Ronaldo, a 27-year-old guy, was badly hurt in the tragic altercation and eventually passed away while being transported to an Imphal hospital. Ten more people were hurt during the altercation, with six of them getting medical treatment for serious injuries.
