Maoists suffer setback as police arrest four, kill two in separate encounters at Lohardaga

Ranchi, Feb.19: There is information about the arrest of at least four Maoists and two getting killed in two different encounters that took place at Lohardaga on Friday.

Out of the four arrested Maoists, one is said to be a guerilla carrying Rs 10 lakh award on his head and three others are his aides.

Though the information is yet to be confirmed officially, police sources claimed that Friday remained a successful day for security personnel engaged in anti-Naxal operations in Lohardaga touching the border of Latehar.

“Two encounters took place in Lohardaga district on Friday. One took place in Bulbul forest under Peshrar police station area while another took place at Kedli Tola forest under Sadar police station area on the border of Latehar,” the police official said.

“Encounter at Bulbul forest continued till evening. It is suspected that regional commander Ravindra Ganjhu, on whom the government has declared a reward of Rs 15 lakh, was leading the Maoists in the Bulbul forest. The encounter took place from close range and it is suspected that at least two Maoist guerrillas were killed in the encounter,” the police official said.

“Kedli forest encounter also remained successful. When police carried out a search operation after encountering one Insas rifle, one pistol, 1590 rounds of cartridges, 19 magazines and 13 IED besides other materials were recovered. Amidst the operation, four Maoists including one carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head were also arrested,” a police official maintained.
