New Delhi, June 27: Days before the rescheduled fifth Test against England, Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal left for Birmingham on Monday. The highly anticipated series finale versus England will begin on July 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and Mayank is prepared to join the Indian team that has been practicing for it.
As a replacement for Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal has allegedly been selected for the Indian Test team. After testing positive for Covid-19 in a Rapid Antigen Test on Saturday, the India captain’s participation in the Test match is in jeopardy. The BCCI medical staff in Leicestershire has Rohit in isolation and is keeping an eye on him.
Mayank posted a picture of his flight to Birmingham on social media. The India opener, who was left out of the first selection following a lacklustre performance against Sri Lanka at home earlier this year, is anticipated to arrive in England later tomorrow evening.
In the four-day exhibition match against Leicestershire last week, Rohit was India’s captain. The Indian captain batted in the first innings and scored 25 runs, but when he opted not to play in the second, many people were puzzled. On Sunday, the BCCI said that Rohit would take an RT-PCR test to ascertain his CT value.
Since there are now no quarantine regulations in force in the UK, Mayank can instantly join the Indian Test team in England. Notably, bio-bubble arrangements for the home series have been eliminated by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Without the bio-bubble arrangements, England and New Zealand are playing a three-match Test series.
