Meghalaya Assembly election to be held on Feb 27, results on March 2

New Delhi, Jan 18: The Schedule for the Meghalaya Assembly elections was released by the Election Commission on Wednesday.

The polling organisation announced today that the state will hold elections on February 27 during a press event. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.

The polling will take place in a single phase.

In Meghalaya, there will be a total of 3,482 polling places set up for the 2018 elections. The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s term is set to expire on March 15, 2023.

In February 2018, the previous assembly elections were held.

Conrad Kongkal Sangma became the state’s chief minister after elections in Meghalaya, where a coalition led by the National People’s Party (NPP) formed the state administration.

Notably, the NPP is the only recognised national party from the Northeast.

According to Assembly Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons, Meghalaya’s House has lost 14 MLAs thus far, bringing the total number of members down from 60 to 47 ahead of the next Assembly elections.
