Daltonganj, Dec 19: The State Education Department has revised the timing of the mid-day meal for the students studying in government schools of the state from primary to middle level (classes 1 to 8).

An order has been issued by the Education Secretary of the State Education Department, IAS K Ravi Kumar that the mid-day meal will be served from 1 pm to 1.30 pm on every working day. Lagatar24.com has a copy of this letter.

Earlier, the time for the mid-day meal was between 2.30 pm to 3 pm which was resented by both guardians as well as the teachers as they found it to be odd for the children.

Headmaster of a government school, Parshuram Tiwary said, “Earlier, the state education department had notified mid-day meal timing from 2.30 pm to 3 pm. Because of this the children had to starve for a long time”.

“I have already ensured that the children would be having their mid-day meal at 1 pm to 1.30 pm. I knew that I was risking a government notification but I kept my children before me and so we prioritised our school children,” he added.

During the inspection, K Ravi Kumar had to confront the issue of the timing of the mid-day meal.

As per the information, the Jharkhand state mid-day meal authority in its State Executive Committee meeting held on November 18 decided to reintroduce the old timing for the mid-day meal in the government schools from 1 pm to 1.30 pm.

The civil society activists and parents have welcomed the revised mid-day meal timing at the government schools in Jharkhand.
