Ranchi, Oct 27: Uncooked rice is being provided to the students of Ranchi district under the mid-day meal scheme as the Jharkhand government fails to allocate the funds for proper nutritional supply to the students.

A total of 7 months have passed and still, the students are only getting 100 gm of rice for classes 1 to 5 and 150 gm for classes 6 to 8 with nil support for pulses, vegetables, oil and cooking costs.

Talking to a majority of schools in the district they said that funds have not been allocated for providing other benefits included in mid-day meals apart from rice.

“I am only getting uncooked rice and no other things are provided from March. Earlier I used to get the money for vegetables, pulses and oil also,” a student of Zila School said.

The principal of Zila School Kumari Dipa Choudhary said that the school is helpless as the fund is not provided for the distribution of other items included in mid-day meals apart from rice.

“Before March we either provided packets to the students or money was transferred to the accounts of the students,” Dipa said.

On the present issue, District Superintendent of Education Kamla Singh expressed his helplessness saying that without the funds it is impossible to provide all the benefits of Mid-day meals to the students.

“As soon as the fund is released we will be providing it to the schools for proper distribution of all the items,” Kamla said.

Under the Mid Day Meal Scheme in the State hot cooked meal is served in all Govt. Primary & Middle Schools, Govt. Aided school, Recognised Madarsa & Sanskrit Schools, Special Training Centres of the state.
