Dhanbad Aug 11: Students, who have completed their course in mining, on Wednesday staged a dharna at the Director-General of Mines Safety (DGMS) headquarter demanding immediate notification for vacant posts in Jharkhand-based coal companies and relaxation of two years for applying for the job.
Agitating students of the state mining colleges said that posts of Mining Sardar, Overman and Surveyors are vacant in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Central Coalfield Limited (CCL), and East Coalfield Limited (ECL) but for the last five years not a single appointment has been made.
At the same time, the DGMS has issued a vacancy notification for the post of Management Trainees (assistant manager), they pointed out.
“It is unfortunate that on the one hand, coal companies have held up the appointment of Mining Sardar, Overman and Surveyor for the last five years, but outsourcing workers are being recruited in open cast mines on the other hand,” said Sanjay Kumar, one of the students.
The students said that the patience of students is running out as they are on the verge of crossing the maximum age fixed by DGMS. For the post of mining sardar, overman and surveyor the maximum age limit is 30 years.
“We have also urged the Directorate General (DG) of DGMS to give two years relaxation in the maximum age limit for applying as due to Corona pandemic, our valuable two years were destroyed,“ said a mining student.
The mining students charged that the DG had assured to issue the vacancy notice within one month when they held a dharna at DGMS headquarters on March 17.
