Dhanbad, Sept 23: A 14 years old tribal girl was gang-raped at Latani village in East Tundi block, around 26 km from here.
The police arrested both the accused after getting information on Friday evening.
A police official said that the incident happened on Friday afternoon. The victim girl along with her younger sister had gone to collect dry wood in nearby Bhutgarhiya Jungle. In the meantime, two youth identified as Santosh Kumar (24) and Veeru (21) arrived on a bike and committed the crime after frightening away the younger sister.
The younger sister reached the village and informed the villagers. But before the villagers reached the incident spot in the Jungle, both the accused had already escaped. In the evening, villagers reached the East Tundi police station along with the victim girl and lodged a complaint against both the youths.
The mother of the girl had died three years ago and the father is a daily wage worker. On Friday, he had gone for daily work in Dhanbad city and returned in the village in evening.
East Tundi police station officer in-charge Krishna Kumar said that after getting information the police swung into action duly and arrested both the accused in late evening. “An FIR has been lodged against both the accused under POCSO and ST SC Act.
Villagers said one of the accused Santosh is married and has a daughter.
