New Delhi: In a strong diplomatic message during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Russia “stand shoulder-to-shoulder and walk together in the fight against terrorism”. Referring to recent terror attacks in Pahalgam and Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, PM Modi asserted that “the root of all these incidents is the same” and called for global unity against terrorism. Putin emphasised that Moscow will continue to support India unequivocally on the issue.
Joint Stand Against Terror And A Message To Global Powers
PM Modi highlighted that “any terrorist attack is a direct assault on the values of humanity” and reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to eliminate terrorism in all its forms. Russia, which strongly backed India after Jaish-e-Mohammed was linked to the Pahalgam attack, reiterated support for New Delhi’s counter-terror operations. Both leaders also reflected on the longevity of bilateral ties, calling the India-Russia friendship “steadfast, rooted in trust, and proven over eight decades of global challenges.”
Energy, Trade And Strategic Cooperation Dominate Bilateral Talks
The joint statement also included major announcements on economic and strategic cooperation. Putin confirmed that Russia will continue “uninterrupted shipments” of fuel to India, while PM Modi underlined the importance of civil nuclear cooperation and clean energy without directly referencing oil. The two countries are targeting USD 100 billion in bilateral trade and are moving toward the use of national currencies in payments. Agreements were exchanged on jobs, shipping, health, and chemical sectors, while discussions also touched on Russia’s Ukraine war and India’s continued role as a “champion of peace.”
