New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the newly built ‘Seva Teerth’ and ‘Kartavya Bhavan’ on Dara Shikoh Road, signalling a major shift in the functioning of India’s top administrative offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
PMO Complex Named ‘Seva Teerth’
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi announced that the new complex housing the PMO, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the Cabinet Secretariat will be known as ‘Seva Teerth’. Reports suggest the Prime Minister may soon shift operations to the new PMO building.
End of an Era for North and South Block
Currently, the PMO and key ministries function from the Secretariat buildings in New Delhi’s historic North Block and South Block. These buildings have served as the country’s administrative nerve centre for nearly 78 years.
Modern, Centralised Administrative Hub
Officials said the Seva Teerth complex has been developed over an area of around 2.26 lakh square feet, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,189 crore. The PMO, NSCS and Cabinet Secretariat have been brought together in one campus, whereas earlier these offices were spread across different locations.
High-Tech, Paperless Work Infrastructure
The complex has been equipped with high-speed internet, digital archives to support a paperless work culture, and modern conference rooms with advanced facilities, aimed at improving coordination and efficiency within the government.
