Mumbai: Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in the tragic BMW hit-and-run incident in Mumbai that resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman, has confessed to being a habitual drinker, according to police sources. The 24-year-old made this admission during police interrogation following his arrest.

Investigations also disclosed that Shah attempted to mislead the authorities by shaving his beard and cutting his hair at a barber shop in Virar. The police have recorded the statement of the barber who performed the haircut, officials reported.

Multiple police teams were deployed to capture Shah, the son of politician Rajesh Shah, a member of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction. Shah was eventually located in an apartment in Virar, approximately 65 km from Mumbai. His whereabouts were determined when a friend turned on their phone for a brief 15 minutes, allowing the police to trace his location.

The incident occurred on July 6, following a night of partying at a Juhu bar. Mihir Shah, allegedly driving the BMW, collided with a couple on a two-wheeler at around 5:30 am. The crash claimed the life of Kaveri Nakhwa, a 45-year-old mother of two, and injured her husband, Pradip Nakhwa. The couple had been out shopping for fish.

CCTV footage from the scene reveals that Ms. Nakhwa was dragged for 1.5 km after the collision before the BMW came to a halt. The footage also shows Shah and his companion, Rajrishi Bidawat, switching seats. Shah reportedly pulled Ms. Nakhwa’s body from beneath the car and left it on the road before driving away.

The police have detained several individuals in connection with the case, including Mihir Shah’s parents and two sisters. Shah managed to evade capture for three days before being tracked down.
