Mumbai, Aug 20: A white powder believed to be cocaine worth about Rs 15 crore was confiscated by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from an Indian passenger at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, a DRI officer said on Sunday.
He stated that the individual who took a flight from Addis Ababa to Mumbai was captured on Friday based on intelligence.
A search of his luggage led to the discovery of 1,496 grammes of what was allegedly cocaine, which has an estimated street value of Rs 15 crore, the official added.
Additionally, based on persistent questioning of the passenger and surveillance, the DRI officials set a trap and captured the recipient, who travelled to Vashi in adjoining Navi Mumbai to pick up the contraband, he said.
According to the official, the arrested recipient is a female Ugandan national.
Under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, both the transporter and the recipient have been placed under custody. The official said that an inquiry is being conducted to find more links in the supply chain for drugs.
