National Under-7 chess: Jharkhand girl gets 14th position

Dhanbad, Sept 26: Jamshedpur’s Aditya Naira got 14th position in the 36th  National Under-7 Open  Chess Championship which concluded on Monday evening at Kolkata’s Salt Lake.

The budding talent of the state, Aditya Naira, got  6 points out of nine rounds in the championship. She won six matches and lost three. An observer of the championship said she could have been among the top 10 players had she won her ninth-round match. But she lost to rated player Harshika (1148) of Tamil Nadu.

In nine rounds, Aditya Naira had to face three ranking players in which she lost to Harshika but won two other games against Sakshi Kaushal (1029) of Haryana and Swara Burkhad (1156) of Maharashtra.

Besides Naira, Zaira Ahmed of Jharkhand got 2.5 points (111th position) and Ishanvi Bhaskar, 0.5 (half) points.

Jharkhand Chess Association secretary Manish Kumar and other office bearers have congratulated Aditya for her impressive performance in the national championship and expressed hope that she would continue her performance on the international stage too.

In the boys’ section, Jharkhand’s Rudra Nil Roy got 23rd position with 6.5 points in 9 rounds. Vivaan Basak  3.5  points (174th  rank), Yajat K Narsaria  3 points, Ridhan Goel 2.5 points, Atharv Adesara 2.5 points and Advik Ajmani 1.5 points.

Sarbartho Mani of Bengal emerged national champion with  9 points. Interestingly, Sarbartho Mani is a student of International Master (IM) Neeraj Mishra of Jharkhand (he was also general secretary of the Jharkhand State Chess Association and severed his relation in December 2022).

The top 20 players were given prizes in the championship.
