New Delhi, Sept 1: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Friday that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been given the status of deemed university.
At an event in the nation’s capital honouring NCERT’s 63rd founding anniversary, the minister made the announcement.
“Today, I want to announce that we are granting the status of deemed to be university to NCERT,” he said.
To “provide holistic education to children,” Pradhan also called for the merger of Bal Bhavans and Bal Vatika with the NCERT.
In order to assist and advise the government on issues pertaining to school education, NCERT was founded in 1961 under the Society Act.
NCERT will grant its own graduation, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees with the deemed university status.
Pradhan unveiled three labs, including one for virtual reality education and another on teacher training centre.
In his speech, Pradhan compared Chandrayaan-3 to the National Education Policy and stated that the latter would be just as successful as the most recent ISRO mission.
“The credit for the Chandrayaan-3’s successful handling should also go to NCERT as it is where the idea of such projects germinate,” said Pradhan.
“NEP is like Chandrayaan-3. It would be successful. Nothing can stop it,” he added.
