Ranchi, Sept 4: The chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Priyank Kanoongo will be travelling to Dumka on September 5.

He will be coming to look into the case of a yet another incident of alleged rape and murder of a minor tribal girl in the district along with the case of the girl set on fire in the same district.

As per input, a 14-year-old tribal girl was found hanging from a tree. The girl was allegedly sexually exploited by a man on the pretext of marriage and was raped, killed and hanged from the tree in an area under Mufassil police station on Friday. The accused, identified as Arman Ansari, has been arrested and a case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC, POCSO and SC & ST Act.

In addition to the scheduled visit of NCPCR team led by Priyank Kanoongo to Dumka, the team will also take stock of status of the said incident by convening a meeting with DC, SP, Investigating Officer of the case and doctors who conducted autopsy of the minor victim girl, besides to meet/interact with the family members of the deceased minor girl.

It is worth noting, that Kanoongo was already supposed to visit Dumka on September 4-5 to look into the case of the class 12 student who died after being set afire by a man apparently after she spurned his advances.

The NCPCR on Tuesday had tweeted, “The victim, who died after being set ablaze to death by pouring petrol in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, has been reported to be minor, NCPCR will reach Dumka and investigate.”

It was earlier stated that the chairperson will travel to Dumka in Jharkhand on September 4 to meet the family of the class 12 student. He was to visit the girl’s residence and hold interaction with family members.

During his two day visit, Priyank Kanoongo was to also hold meetings with police officials and medical authorities handling the case. In a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Secretary and other state government officials, the NCPCR had said Kanungo will be visiting Dumka to take stock of the case.

Kanungo was also scheduled to meet with the district collector, superintendent of police (SIT), investigating officer, medical authorities and district child protection officer.
