New Delhi, Dec.1: Popular spanish web series Money Heist is wrapping off this week with the release of season 5 “Volume 2” on Netflix, but the Money Heist universe will live on.
Money Heist star Pedro Alonso unveiled a spin-off origin series centred on his character Berlin/ Andrés de Fonollosa, the heist’s second-in-command and older brother to The Professor/ Sergio Marquina (lvaro Morte) at a fan event at the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid.
Netflix will premiere the Money Heist Berlin spin-off TV show in 2023. Lex Pina, the inventor of Money Heist, as well as his frequent colleagues Javier Gómez Santander and Juan Savador López, will be involved.
“It is a memorable moment because it is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another,” Alonso said at the Money Heist fan event on Tuesday in Madrid. “Today I was talking to Jesús Colmenar and we were saying that now we walk into the unknown, open to whatever happens and without expectations. […] I know that [the Money Heist writers] will give the series every possible twist and turn. The responsibility [of spinning off such a popular series] can be a burden and a prison. I hope we continue to have the courage to use this wonderful energy to risk everything again.”

This is a wonderful news for Money Heist fans since it will provide them with not only more information about the universe, but also an origin storey for a character who died quite early in the five-season run of the Spanish series – Berlin was terminally ill from the start.
However, it will be intriguing to see how the character is handled in the Money Heist Berlin spin-off series as both Alonso and Pina testified in the Netflix documentary Money Heist: The Phenomenon that Berlin was a racist, misogynistic and sociopathic guy.
“Volume 2” of Money Heist season 5 will be released on Friday, December 3. The untitled Money Heist Berlin spin-off series will premiere on Netflix in 2023. It’s the first and only Money Heist spin-off to date.
