New Delhi, Feb 14: Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah said that the new leadership in Jammu and Kashmir will emerge from the recently held Panchayat elections.
“New leadership in Jammu and Kashmir will emerge from the recently held Panchayat elections. The panch and sarpanch who have been elected, new leadership will emerge from them,” when asked about political dynasties in J&K, Shah said.
Amit Shah talked about his remarks on the statehood returning in J&K and said, “I had clearly stated that statehood will be restored in J&K after the elections. The process of preparation of the voters’ list is nearing completion in the Union Territory. Now, the Election Commission has to take a call on elections.”
The removal of Article 370, according to Shah, was on the BJP and Jan Sangh’s agenda. In relation to Article 370, he also brought up Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister.
“Since 1950, it has been on our agenda to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Now with the manner in which development work is going on in J&K and the way terrorists and terror attacks are decreasing, it is being proven right. You can see data,” he said.
“Since the time terrorism started in Jammu & Kashmir, the terrorism-related figures are at their lowest today. Crores of tourists and yatris are visiting J&K now. This is a huge change,” he added.
