Patna: In a major decision benefiting thousands of Home Guard personnel, the Bihar government on Tuesday announced a significant increase in their wages. The announcement came after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where 49 proposals were approved, including the long-pending demand of Home Guard jawans for equal pay for equal work.
Substantial Salary Increase
Until now, Home Guard personnel were paid ₹774 per day. With the latest revision, they will now receive ₹1,121 per day. This means that if a jawan works throughout the month, they will earn over ₹30,000 in salary. The decision has brought immense relief and happiness among the force, who had been agitating for fair wages.
Background of Protests
Just five days ago, Home Guard jawans staged demonstrations in Bhagalpur, Ara, and Chhapra demanding parity in pay. They marched from the Combined Building Gate, raising slogans such as “Fulfil our demands,” “Give equal pay,” and “Wake up government.” Large numbers of personnel participated in the protests, warning that their agitation would continue until their demands were met.
Government Response
With this cabinet approval, the Nitish government has directly addressed their concerns, signaling its intent to ensure fair treatment and morale boost for the Home Guard force. The move is being seen as a major step towards wage justice and recognition of their contribution to law and order support in Bihar.
