Bhagalpur: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a sharp attack on the Lalu-Rabri government, accusing them of doing “nothing for the people” during their 15-year rule. Addressing an election rally in Kahalgaon, Nitish urged voters to support NDA candidates, claiming that the opposition’s politics has always been focused on family interests rather than public welfare.
Attack On Past Governments
Nitish Kumar said that before 2005, law and order in Bihar was so poor that people were afraid to step out of their homes after dark. “They only worked for their family, not for Bihar,” he said, without naming Lalu Prasad Yadav. He asserted that under the NDA, every section of society — Hindus, Muslims, Dalits, Mahadalits, and backward classes — has benefitted from equal opportunities.
Focus On Education, Health, And Women Empowerment
The Chief Minister listed his government’s achievements, including the recruitment of 2.58 lakh teachers through the Bihar Public Service Commission and the launch of schemes such as free uniforms, bicycles, and scholarships for students. He added that free medicines and treatment are now available in primary health centres, which treat an average of 11,600 patients monthly compared to negligible numbers earlier. Nitish also highlighted the ‘Saat Nischay Yojana’, women’s reservation in government jobs, and livelihood support of ₹10,000 for women through the Jeevika programme.
Infrastructure And Welfare Schemes
Nitish pointed out that the ‘Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal’ project has ensured tap water supply to every household and that Bihar now enjoys 125 units of free electricity for consumers. He said pensions for the elderly have increased from ₹400 to ₹1,100. “Roads that were once in ruins now reach every doorstep,” he declared, crediting the NDA’s governance for improving connectivity and industrial development across districts.
Promise Of Continued Growth
Concluding his speech, Nitish Kumar said that if re-elected, his government would continue to take Bihar “to new heights of development.” He added, “Bihar is on the track of progress, and we will ensure this journey continues.”
