Last month, UGC President Jagadesh Kumar announced that the merger of  NEET, JEE and CUET was under consideration, causing a setback for students and the teaching community. The president of UGC said that one entrance exam would make it impossible for students to prepare for and take multiple entrance exams.

The National Examinations Authority (NTA) is currently authorized to administer the three National Entrance Test cum Eligibility Test (NEET),  Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and University Entrance Examination General (CUET). This year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) made the CUET entrance exam mandatory for admission to undergraduate courses at central universities.
