Balasore, June 5: The Odisha government reported on Monday that 151 bodies from the triple train disaster that occurred in the Balasore district of Odisha have been identified as of this morning.

In a statement released on Monday morning, Odisha’s Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena stated that 151 bodies had been identified.

“All bodies after the due process are handed over for transfer to their destination. All arrangements for free transportation of the bodies by hearses/ dead body carriers till destination have been made by Odisha government,” said Jena in the statement.

The tragedy that occurred on June 2 at Bahanaga Bazar region left at least 275 people dead and more than 1,000 injured.

At Bahanaga Bazar station in the Balasore district, three separate trains—the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express, and the cargo train—were all involved in an accident.

Earlier on Sunday, Chief Secretary of Odisha Pradeep Jena made it clear that the horrible accident’s death toll had been amended from 288 to 275 when it was discovered that a few bodies had been recorded more than once.

On the rails at Bahanaga village in Odisha’s Balasore that were damaged as a result of the triple train tragedy, Indian Railways has begun operating passenger trains.

As services resumed on Sunday after 51 hours following a railway disaster in Balasore, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw waved to the crew of a goods train and prayed for a safe journey.

“Services on both tracks have been restored. Normal train services on both lines have now been restored, 51 hours after the accident,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw.
