New Delhi, Sept 29: A day after the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its eight affiliated fronts were outlawed by the Centre for five years, the radical group was subject to a massive online crackdown on Thursday when Twitter took down its official account.
The accounts of PFI chairman OMA Salam and general secretary Anis Ahmed were also deleted by Twitter India. During the raids, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) detained both of them.
Following their prohibition under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its eight affiliates’ websites and social media accounts were ordered to be blocked in order to stop them from spreading their activities.
Due to their alleged involvement in supporting terrorism and connections to international terrorist organisations, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday outlawed the extreme group. The Center’s action followed the second wave of a crackdown on PFI functionaries in several states by central investigation authorities.
During the two raids, more than 250 PFI workers and members were detained, and various incriminating documents were confiscated.
