Omicron concerns prompt East Central Railway to prepare action plan

Ramgarh, Dec 6: East Central Railway is taking several precautionary measures in view of the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron. Experienced doctors, nurses and paramedical staff will be deployed round the clock in railway hospitals to deal with any emergency. In order to provide medical facilities to the patients of Covid-19, medical staff in the railway hospitals are also being specially trained by updating them with the latest information of the new variant.

 

“To protect against Covid-19, many steps have been taken by East Central Railway to get its employees vaccinated against Covid, as a result of which, out of about 80 thousand railway workers of East Central Railway, more than 72 thousand railway workers i.e. about 90 percent employees have been given the vaccine,” said Rajesh Kumar, CPRO of East Central railway.

 

“Both doses have been given, and the remaining 10% of workers have not received the second dose since the time gap between the first and second doses of their vaccine has not yet been filled,” he added.

 

Apart from the vaccine, 6 hospitals have been designated for the treatment of patients of Covid-19 where they are given proper care and treatment.  A total of 206 beds have been reserved for Covid patients in these hospitals, out of which 30 beds of ICU and 176 beds of non-ICU have been reserved, 27 invasive ventilators and 83 non-invasive ventilators have also been installed.

 

Proper arrangements have also been made for necessary medicines, oxygen concentrator, PPE kit and N-95 masks for treatment in these hospitals.  Necessary measures are also being taken for the treatment of young children in these hospitals.

 

Oxygen generation plants have started functioning in Danapur, Sonepur and Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Divisional Rail Hospitals of East Central Railway, while machines of Oxygen Generation Plant are being installed in Central Super Specialty Hospital/Patna and Divisional Rail Hospital, Dhanbad and Samastipur and will start working here soon.

Along with the above measures to deal with the new variant of Covid-19 in a proper way, the railway is also maintaining constant coordination with the officials of the State Governments.

 

In this episode, booths have been set up by the state government at many stations of East Central Railway for screening and testing of Covid-19, where passengers coming from trains are being screened. These include Ara, Buxar, Patliputra, Danapur, Patna Jn., Rajendranagar Terminal, Patna City, Jehanabad, Bihar Sharif, Rajgir, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Barhiya, Lakhisarai, Kiul, Jamui, Jhajha and Hajipur, Sonpur, of Danapur division of Danapur division.  Muzaffarpur, Barauni, Khagaria, Naugachia stations.
