Dhanbad, Aug 27: A 50-year old woman died and two other persons of the family suffered injuries when a two-storied building collapsed in Katras Bhagat Muhalla, around 35 km away Dhanbad district headquarters on Thursday night.
A police official said the incident occurred around 8.30 PM. After three hours’ rescue operation the trio was pulled out from rubble at around 11.30 PM.
The deceased was identified as Baby Devi while her husband Pradeep Gupta (56) and son Ayush (15) were injured seriously in the incident.
Two other buildings on the spot were also damaged in the incident but there was no report of any person’s injury.
Getting information Baghmara deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nisha Murmu, Circle Officer (CO) Kamal Kishore Sinha, local MLA Dhulu Mahto and other senior officers reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The official said all the three persons were trapped in debris as the building collapsed. Local people, police, and mines rescue team of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) pulled out them from the rubble. After a one-hour operation, the rescue team first pulled out Pradeep Gupta at 9.30 , his son Ayush at 10.30, and his wife Baby at 11.30 one by one. They were admitted to nearby Nichitpur Hospital where doctors declared Baby Devi was brought dead.
The police officer said the building was more than a hundred years old and in dilapidated condition in lack of maintenance. Pradeep Gupta was living with five members of the family in the building. Fortunately, his two daughters Prerna ( 22) and Mitali ( 18) were out of the house at the time of the collapse.
Gupta , his son, and his wife were on the second floor when the plaster of the building began peeling off. Having seen danger they began fleeing but before they came down, the building collapsed over them and they were trapped under debris.
