New Delhi: The INDIA bloc held a key meeting on Tuesday, demanding a special session of Parliament in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor. Leaders from 16 opposition parties attended the meeting and jointly sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene the session.
The opposition stated that the government should brief the nation through Parliament on the operation and express formal gratitude to the Armed Forces. They also sought a strategic discussion on several related matters, including the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, isolating Pakistan globally, and eradicating terrorism from its roots.
Opposition: Parliament deserves a full briefing
Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP Sanjay Raut remarked that if the Prime Minister can halt military action at the U.S.’s request, he should be willing to hold a Parliament session at the opposition’s request as well. “Or should we now ask Donald Trump to get Parliament convened?” he quipped.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav pointed out that while the world is being briefed on Operation Sindoor, the Indian Parliament has been left in the dark.
Congress leader Deepender Hooda said that 16 parties collectively appealed to the Prime Minister to call a special session so that the people of India could be formally informed about the government’s actions and strategy.
Parties that joined the meeting
The meeting was attended by the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), Rashtriya Janata Dal, National Conference, CPIM, CPI, IUML, Revolutionary Socialist Party, JMM, Kerala Congress, MDMK, CPI(ML), and others.
